State House has confirmed that President Yoweri Museveni will today address the global audience at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week-ADSW, an international platform that confronts the crucial challenges facing mankind for sustainable development and clean energy adoption.
In a statement, the Presidential Press Unit said Museveni, who was invited by his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will make a keynote address under the theme “Uganda’s Transformation: Leading Uganda’s Journey.” His address will share insights into Uganda’s progress and experiences in sustainable development.
Opening Ceremony and Key Leaders in Attendance
On Tuesday, the President attended the opening ceremony of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025 at ADNEC, a twin event to the awards ceremony that was presided over by the President of the UAE Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
This brought together prominent world leaders, including the East African heads of state: the President of Kenya, William Ruto, and the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, among others. The presence of these key international stakeholders underlined the importance of international cooperation over sustainability challenges.
Sheikh Mohamed’s Visionary Leadership
It represents a legacy annually pursued by Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, whose leadership propelled the UAE’s mission of livelihood improvements in sustainability and humanitarian causes worldwide. This conference highlights global challenges in which shared responsibility must go hand-in-hand toward a greener future.
Celebrating African Excellence in Sustainability
While St. Kizito High School Namugongo of Uganda missed the top prize in the Global High Schools category for Sub-Saharan Africa, their participation demonstrated the potential of student-led, project-based solutions. The Global High Schools initiative places an emphasis on practical sustainability projects that help to address challenges faced by disadvantaged communities.
In the Climate Action category, Tanzania’s Open Map Development group emerged as the winner because of their groundbreaking flood management project, which weaves together indigenous knowledge and geospatial data to make sense of everything-so representative of creative solutions coming from Africa in taming the environment.
Looking Ahead
The presence and address of President Museveni at the ADSW underline Uganda’s commitment to sustainable development and its aspiration to be a main player in the global struggle for a more sustainable and equable world. His speech is expected to highlight the strides Uganda has made in sectors like energy, infrastructure, and agriculture, aligning with the global push for clean energy and sustainable practices.
As leaders from across the globe converge in Abu Dhabi, the discussions and collaborations ignited during the week will go a long way in shaping policies and strategies for a sustainable future. Uganda’s active participation demonstrates the country’s readiness to embrace and contribute to these global initiatives.
A Platform for Change
Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week has stayed a lighthouse to innovation and collaboration-a platform where countries and organizations share their successes, challenges, and ideas. This event, from high-level panel discussions down to grassroots solutions, epitomizes what is needed: a coming together on one platform in the pursuit of sustainability across the world.
President Museveni’s address will likely inspire further dialogue and cooperation, emphasizing the importance of transformative leadership and community-driven approaches in addressing the world’s most pressing issues.
