President Museveni to Commission Two Steel Factories in Iganga and Jinja

President Yoweri Museveni is set to commission two steel factories in Iganga and Jinja as he undertakes the Parish Development Model tour in the Busoga region. These factories are expected to increase the capacity of the steel industry and provide job opportunities for the people.

According to the official schedule, the President will inaugurate the Abyssinia Steel Factory in Jinja on Friday and the Tembo Steel Factory in Iganga on Saturday. State House confirmed on Monday that Museveni’s tour will kick off on Wednesday, January 22, with visits to various farmers who have benefited from the PDM program. Among them are Buwala Tolofisa in Namutumba, Mukasa Eliot in Luuka, and Kazibwe Micheal in Jinja District.

On Thursday, the President will hold a live media interaction with journalists at Kityerera State Lodge. He will later commission a presidential skilling hub at Nakabango in Jinja City and address the public at Lwanda Primary School. In the afternoon, he will meet leaders from the Busoga Sub-Region at Mayuge District Headquarters to discuss major development projects.

On Friday, January 24, the President will preside over the launch of construction works at Kimaka Airstrip and officially open the Abyssinia Steel Factory in Jinja. Later, he will address a public gathering on the Parish Development Model at Kamuli Youth Center in Kamuli Municipality.

After commissioning the Tembo Steel Factory in Iganga, the President will hold a mega rally with boda-boda riders at Iganga District Headquarters. He will then, at 8:00 PM address the nation live from State Lodge-Nakasero.

Setting up these steel factories is a milestone in industrial development, likely to contribute to economic growth by creating jobs and increasing local production of steel. A tour by the President underlines his commitment to the transformation of the region through various development programs and investments.
