President Museveni to continue PDM zonal tours in Kigezi sub-region in support of farmers.

President Yoweri Museveni will resume his Parish Development Model-PDM Zonal Tours in the Kigezi Sub-region on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. According to the Presidential Press Unit-PPU, the President will visit some farmers and interface with the public in a live media session, besides addressing the public rally. The tour is part of ongoing efforts by the President towards fostering agricultural development and supporting farmers across the country.

This initiative by the government, through the Parish Development Model, is geared toward changing the livelihood of Ugandans by increasing agricultural productivity and accessing more promising markets for their farm products. The tours in different regions, according to President Museveni, would give him an opportunity to understand the problems of farmers and their ways of mitigating them. Further information about the tour, PPU said, would be provided as the dates approach.

The President, who will be visiting the Kigezi Sub-region, will hold a live media interaction with farmers who are beneficiaries of the PDM program. He will listen to their experiences, share ideas, and discuss ways of improving farming practices. The live media interaction will allow the public to pose questions and their views to the President. This open dialogue is meant to strengthen the connection between the government and the people, ensuring that the needs of farmers are heard and addressed.

The other very important component of this tour will be the public rally. Here, President Museveni will tell a big audience about the significance of agriculture to Uganda’s development. He will also be highlighting the achievements under the PDM program and stating future plans toward helping farmers. The rally provides an avenue for the President to inspire the people and make them take responsibility for developing their regions.

PDM works towards enhancing the farmer’s production and eventually giving them the best markets for their products. In this way, the government reduces poverty and generally improves living standards in rural areas. By giving them seeds, fertilizers, and other related materials, and even training them on advanced farming, they are able to grow more produce and, therefore, gain more from their farm produce. It identifies buyers and connects them to farmers in order to accord them good prices for their crops.

The public is invited to join the President on his tour, to engage him in the live media interaction, and to participate in the public rally. It is regarded as one way of raising development in Kigezi Sub-region, among others in the country. Together, the government and the people will achieve the objectives of the PDM program for the benefit of all Ugandans.

President Museveni’s commitment to agricultural development is not new. Over the years, he has visited many regions to promote farming and support farmers. These tours have helped to raise awareness about the challenges farmers face and the importance of agriculture in Uganda’s economy. They have also provided a platform for the government to share its plans and achievements with the public.

Kigezi Sub-region is famous for its very fertile land and industrious farmers. The President, by visiting the area, wants to understand the specific needs of the farmers in that area and how he can support them. The tour is therefore also to celebrate success stories of the PDM program and mobilize more to join.

The PDM program is also part of a wider government strategy for the economic transformation of Uganda. Agriculture provides the backbone for the economy and a livelihood for a big percentage of the population. The government seeks to raise agricultural productivity and market access in ways that improve employment, lower poverty, and raise economic growth.

As the President prepares for his tour, farmers and residents of the Kigezi Sub-region are rearing for him. They want to share with him their experiences, challenges, and ideas, and equally get more enlightenment on what the government is doing to support agriculture and generally improve their livelihood.

In that respect, the impending PDM Zonal Tour in the Kigezi Sub-region by President Museveni becomes one of the important events of government in support of farmers for the development of agriculture. The president hopes to bridge the gap between the government and the people through visits to farmers, engagement with the public, and an address to a rally. The tour also provided the opportunity to celebrate the successes of the PDM program and encourage many more into the program. At the continued quest by Uganda toward economic transformation, the programs like the PDM are going to remain key toward the improvement of livelihoods for farmers and enhancing the economy of the country.
