The lush greens of Entebbe Club came alive last Saturday, 29/06/2025, as over 150 amateur golfers gathered for the much-anticipated 2025 Hima Captain’s Putter Golf Tournament. The prestigious event, sponsored by Hima Cement, brought together golf enthusiasts from across Uganda for a day of friendly competition, camaraderie, and celebration of the sport.
Played on the club’s picturesque par-72 course, the tournament followed the Tombstone format, a unique system that adds an extra layer of challenge and excitement to the game. The event attracted notable figures, including Uganda’s Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka and Next Media Group CEO Kin Kariisa, both of whom showcased their skills on the challenging 18-hole course.
Serwano Walusimbi, Captain of Entebbe Golf Club, expressed his appreciation for Hima Cement’s unwavering support. “The Captain’s Putter is more than just a tournament it’s a celebration of leadership, tradition, and the spirit of golf at our club,” he said. Over the years, Hima Cement has played a key role in developing the club’s infrastructure, including the construction of tee boxes, with plans underway to complete a walkway to Tee Box 1.

Joan Kitawona, Hima Cement’s Brand and Communications Manager, reiterated the company’s commitment to nurturing golf in Uganda. “We believe in supporting sports that bring people together and promote healthy competition,” she said. “Golf is a game of precision, patience, and discipline values that align with our vision as a company.”
As the sun set over the course, the tournament transitioned into the lively 19th Hole Experience, where players and guests were treated to a vibrant evening of 90s music and electrifying performances by Ivuga Band. The post-tournament festivities provided the perfect opportunity for golfers to unwind, share stories, and celebrate their achievements.

The competition itself was fierce, with standout performances across various categories. Peace Hellen emerged as the star of the women’s division, clinching both the Nearest to the Pin and Longest Drive awards before being crowned the overall ladies’ champion. On the men’s side, General Michael Kabango claimed the top prize, demonstrating skill and consistency throughout the round. Other notable winners included Jude Ochieng, who triumphed in Men’s Group A, Bridget Basiima in Ladies’ Group A, and Elly Mukasa in Men’s Group B.
The success of this year’s tournament has set the stage for another exciting event on the horizon, the Hima-sponsored Clash of the Titans, scheduled for September. Golf enthusiasts are already looking forward to another display of talent and sportsmanship at Entebbe Club.

For many participants, the Hima Captain’s Putter Tournament is more than just a competition, it’s a testament to the growing popularity of golf in Uganda and the sense of community it fosters. As players walked off the course, laughter and cheers filled the air, a clear sign that the event had once again delivered on its promise of fun, challenge, and unforgettable memories.
