Minister Balaam Steps In as Mirundi Junior Claims Zawedde Wants Him Dead

A heated online feud between social media personality Tamale Mirundi Junior and businesswoman Juliet Zawedde has escalated, with Junior now claiming his life is in danger. The situation has drawn the attention of Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, who has stepped in to mediate and assure Junior that he will not be unlawfully arrested.

The drama began when Junior criticized Zawedde for hosting a birthday party in Kampala, questioning how she could afford such an event given her financial status. Zawedde fired back by sharing screenshots of what she claims were messages from Junior begging her for money. Since then, the two have been locked in a bitter exchange, with Junior now alleging that Zawedde is using her influence to have him arrested—or worse.

In a video circulating online, Junior appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to intervene, claiming that Zawedde has bribed police officers and judges to ensure his imprisonment and possible harm. He also called on high-profile figures like Gen. Salim Saleh, Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga, and Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for help.

The situation took a new turn when Minister Balaam Barugahara publicly weighed in, assuring Junior that he would not be arrested for speaking his mind. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Balaam emphasized that Uganda’s constitution protects freedom of speech and that the government would not allow truth to be suppressed by money or power.

“Mr. Tamale Mirundi Junior, younger brother, as Minister of State for Youth Affairs, you’re safe from arrest when speaking the truth for our country’s good and the younger generation’s benefit,” Balaam wrote. He mentioned key legal figures, including the Attorney General, CID Director, and Director of Public Prosecutions, as safeguards against any unlawful action.

However, Balaam also urged Junior to use the internet responsibly, warning against misuse. He revealed that Zawedde is also his friend and promised to reach out to her to facilitate dialogue between the two. “Madam Juliet Zawedde is my friend as well. I will reach out to her to seek dialogue with you and any other persons she differs with,” he added, signing off with his usual motto: “For God and Our Country.”

The minister’s intervention highlights the growing concern over online conflicts spiraling into real-world consequences. While social media has given Ugandans a platform to express opinions, it has also become a battleground for personal vendettas, with some individuals leveraging connections to intimidate critics.

Junior’s accusations against Zawedde, particularly the claim that she is manipulating the justice system—raise serious questions about the fairness of law enforcement when money and influence are involved. If true, it would not be the first time powerful individuals have been accused of using their wealth to silence opponents.

On the other hand, Zawedde has yet to publicly respond to Junior’s latest allegations. Her earlier posts suggest she views Junior’s attacks as baseless and driven by personal grievances. Whether this feud is simply a war of words or something more sinister remains to be seen.

For now, Minister Balaam’s involvement may help de-escalate tensions, but the underlying issues—wealth, power, and freedom of speech, are unlikely to disappear. As the situation develops, many will be watching to see if dialogue prevails or if the conflict takes a darker turn.

One thing is certain: in Uganda’s increasingly digital public sphere, online disputes can quickly spill into real life, testing the limits of free expression and the rule of law. Whether justice will be served or swayed by influence is a question that lingers as this drama unfolds.
