The Uganda National Teachers Union has launched a new digital tool, the UNATU App, aimed at enhancing communication and service delivery to teachers in Uganda. This move is a major milestone in the union’s efforts to leverage technology in transforming the teaching profession.
The launch was made during the 19th Annual Delegates’ Conference in Kabale Municipality. This conference marked something big, as it was the first of its kind in the region and showcased the union’s commitment to embracing digital solutions in addressing teachers’ needs.
A New Era of Connectivity
Zadock Tumuhimbise, the UNATU National Chairman, emphasized the app’s role in improving communication among teachers. He explained that it would help teachers share knowledge and best practices, fostering a culture of collaboration within the education sector.
“The app that we have launched will streamline the teachers’ activities and foster effectiveness,” Tumuhimbise said during the event.
The UNATU App will bridge gaps in communication, as teachers will find it easy to access information about updates within the union, educational policies, and professional development opportunities.
Support for Better Performance
The Secretary General of UNATU, Mr. Philbert Baguma, emphasized the long-awaited launch of the app and how proud he was that it was going to elevate the performance of teachers and headteachers in schools.
“This is the time, and we want to move very fast to ensure that we make use of it. We want to use it for efficient communication with our members regularly,” said Baguma.
He also noted that the union’s leadership will do some training in order for teachers to reap maximum benefit from the various features on the app to ensure maximum usage of the app among teachers.
Improving Teacher Engagement
The UNATU App is designed to be a one-stop solution for teachers, providing access to important updates, resources, and tools to aid in their professional growth. It is also expected to make union activities more efficient and enhance the overall teaching experience.
With this application, UNATU has taken a very bold step toward modernizing how teachers interact and stay in touch. In using technology, the union is tackling not only current challenges but also preparing for a more digitally integrated future in education.
Looking Ahead
The launch of the UNATU App is a great milestone for the teaching fraternity in Uganda. It demonstrates the union’s commitment to empowering educators with the necessary tools to excel. As the app is rolled out, the leadership of UNATU is optimistic that it will revolutionize how teachers communicate, collaborate, and grow in their profession.
Such innovations serve as a lead for most unions to consider digital solutions in enhancing the living standards of their members and quality education in Uganda.
