
Kampala, Uganda – United Bank for Africa (UBA) Africa Executive Director and CEO, Ms. Abiola Bawuah, has wrapped up her maiden visit to Uganda in triumph, reaffirming the bank’s commitment to Uganda’s economic development and financial growth. Her three-day visit was more than a routine run-of-the-mill business trip—it was a notice that UBA is here to stay and expand with Uganda.
Bawuah also met with government leaders, entrepreneurs, and consumers at the highest levels, underscoring UBA’s leadership role in driving trade, investment, and economic integration across Africa. She singled out Uganda for its importance to this effort, stating, “We are proud of our presence in Uganda and our contribution to the country’s financial landscape. Our objective is to make trade, investment, and economic integration possible throughout Africa, and Uganda is a key partner to us in that endeavor.”
UBA, a leading financial group in Africa, has been expanding its footprint in Uganda over the years incrementally, offering businesses, individuals, and government institutions a range of banking services. During her visit, Bawuah explored new opportunities for UBA to expand its footprint further, namely in digital banking, trade finance, and SME support.
Her message was clear—UBA is guided by innovation, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. The bank’s motto of “Customer First (C1st),” also took center stage in her addresses. She reiterated that UBA will continue to offer solutions that make banking easy, fast, and more accessible to Ugandans.
UBA Uganda Managing Director and CEO, Kenneth Kisambira, expressed gratitude to Bawuah for the visit and termed it as a “strong demonstration of UBA’s commitment to Uganda.” He added, “We are pleased to have had the opportunity to host Ms. Bawuah in Uganda. Her visit is a reaffirmation of UBA’s commitment to our market and our customers.”
Bawuah’s visit was also focused on empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which are crucial to Uganda’s economy. SMEs are not able to easily access money, and UBA is poised to complete the gap. The bank has been instituting financial solutions that are aimed at helping small businesses grow, with the funds they need to thrive in a competitive market.
Further, digital banking too was on their radar. Since Uganda is converting to a digital economy, UBA is out front, extending modern banking products that address the needs of a fast-growing society that is highly technology-savvy. Among these are areas where UBA is making sizeable investments, such as in mobile banking, online payments, and digital payments systems, for customers to bank anytime, anywhere.
Beyond business, UBA’s presence in Uganda also comes through community support. The bank is committed to corporate social responsibility projects that improve the Ugandans’ standards of living through education, financial literacy programs, and economic empowerment programs.
Bawuah’s visit to Uganda is a regional tour in East and Southern Africa (ESA) during which she is getting around stakeholders and restating UBA’s economic transformation vision in Africa. On-going, as the tour gains momentum, UBA Uganda maintains its resolve for the provision of creative financial services and contributing towards the country’s wealth.
As the visit comes to an end, one thing is for sure—UBA’s relationship with Uganda is stronger than ever. With its focus on growth, innovation, and customer satisfaction, the bank will be playing an even bigger role in shaping Uganda’s financial destiny.
