Kilembe Mines Golf Club successfully hosted the Kilembe Open 2025, a national golf tournament fully sponsored by Hima Cement, under the theme “Golf in the Wild.” Held against the breathtaking backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains, the tournament brought together golfers from across the country to celebrate sport, tourism and community in a unique 18-hole challenge.
The event marked the first edition of the Kilembe Open under this theme and offered players an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the region while navigating Uganda’s longest golf course. With clubs from Mbarara, Tooro, UGC, Kabale and beyond represented, the tournament served as a platform for competition and connection.

Speaking at the event, Philemon Mubiru, Head of Innovation and Marketing at Hima Cement, thanked all golfers for their participation and reaffirmed Hima Cement’s long-standing commitment to the sport.
“Hima Cement is proud to be part of the growth of golf in Uganda. Our involvement in tournaments such as this reflects our dedication to supporting local talent and giving back to the communities in which we operate,” he said. He also encouraged participants to consider Hima Cement products for their construction needs, highlighting the company’s legacy of quality and corporate social responsibility.
The overall gross winner of the Kilembe Open 2025 was Joseph Cwinyai from UGC, who also claimed top honours at the Tooro Open earlier this year, making him one of the standout amateur golfers in the country. The tournament also featured a junior category played on 25 July, with participants aged 4 to 18 showcasing the region’s rising talent.
Ronald Rugumayo, East Africa’s leading amateur golfer from the Rwenzori region, also competed in this year’s edition, further inspiring the juniors and contributing to the competitive atmosphere.
The Chairman of Kilembe Golf Club expressed gratitude to Hima Cement for its consistent support over the years and acknowledged all participating clubs for making the event successful. He noted the club’s historical importance in developing golf in the region and shared plans to host more national events, including a future edition of the Pearl of Africa Series.
The Kilembe Open 2025 concluded with the 19th Hole Experience, a social event featuring live band performances, DJ mixes, and a Safari Wear dress code. Guests also enjoyed the launch of “Brunch in the Wild”, which included community trails, traditional cuisine and cultural showcases , a fitting close to a tournament that celebrated both sport and heritage.
