UEDCL Announces Nationwide Power Maintenance Schedule: What You Need to Know

The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has released a detailed schedule for its upcoming national maintenance and upgrade works. The exercise, which begins on Tuesday, May 13, will cover multiple regions across the country, including Kampala, Gulu, Soroti, Entebbe, and several others. The maintenance will involve transformer servicing, pole replacements, line clearance, and other critical improvements to ensure a reliable power supply.

Starting on Tuesday, May 13, UEDCL technicians will carry out transformer maintenance, oil filtration, and overhead line (OHL) equipment servicing in Lugogo. This will affect areas such as Kitintale, Ntinda, and Kabalagala, where load management will be required. On Wednesday, May 14, Soroti will experience 33kV OHL maintenance and pole replacement along the Soroti-Aloet feeder, impacting Aloet, Asuret, Aukot, and Dakabela.

Gulu City will undergo vegetation clearance and insulator washing on Thursday, May 15, affecting Gulu Main and UETCL substations. Residents in Pece, Layibi, Bardege, and Unyama should prepare for possible power interruptions. In Entebbe, pole replacement and conductor tensioning will take place on Monday, May 19, along the Entebbe-Kajjansi 33kV feeder, with Kajjansi Town Council, Akright Estate, Kitende, and Lutembe likely to experience disruptions.

Fort Portal will have transformer oil filtration and switchgear inspections on Tuesday, May 20, though no outages are expected. However, Arua residents should brace for vegetation clearance and pole replacement on Wednesday, May 21, affecting Rhino Camp, Bileafe, and Ocea.

The maintenance schedule extends into late May, with significant works planned for Lira, Hoima, Mbarara, and Mbale. On Thursday, May 22, Lira will see line clearance and pole replacement in Kilak-Abim, Apac-Olelpek, and Kitgum-Lotukei feeders, impacting towns like Abim, Apac, and Aloi. Meanwhile, Nkenda’s Tx1 and Tx2 transformers will undergo meter retrofitting, requiring load management.

Kampala’s northern areas, including Kamwokya, Kyebando, and Nsooba, will experience pole and transformer structure replacements on Saturday, May 24. The same day, Wabigalo’s routine maintenance will affect Luwero Town, Kiwoko, and Bombo. On Sunday, May 25, Kawanda’s HV pole replacement will disrupt power for Premier Distillers and Winworld Impex, while Matuga Switching Station’s jumper repairs will impact Dei Pharmacy and Kigogwa.

The maintenance campaign continues into the last week of May. On Tuesday, May 27, Namanve North’s Tx3 and capacitor bank repairs will require load management in Nalya and Mukono. Kole’s Kamdin 33kV feeder will undergo H-section replacement on Wednesday, May 28, affecting Kamdin, Kisanja, and Parkgate. Serena Hotel and Sheraton’s 11kV switchgear will also undergo routine maintenance, potentially causing temporary outages.

Lira’s Kwania-Dokolo feeder will have pole replacements on Thursday, May 29, impacting Dokollo, Anyara, and Amuria. Lugogo’s Tx1 and Tx5 maintenance will once again require load management in Kitintale, Ntinda, and Kabalagala. Mutundwe-Budo’s 11kV line repairs will affect Kabojja, Budo, and Kyengera, while Busunju-Mityana’s 33kV line works will disrupt power in Kabega Maize Mill and Nakaseeta.

The maintenance concludes on Friday, May 30, with reconductoring works on the Kabulasoke-Nkonge Solar 132kV line, though no customers will be affected.

UEDCL has assured customers that every effort will be made to minimize inconvenience during the maintenance period. However, some areas may experience temporary load management or brief outages to ensure the safety of technicians and the public. The company has advised customers to plan accordingly and stay updated through UEDCL’s official communication channels.

These upgrades are part of UEDCL’s broader strategy to enhance the reliability and efficiency of Uganda’s power distribution network. By addressing aging infrastructure and improving system performance, the company aims to reduce long-term outages and provide better service to consumers.

Regular maintenance is crucial for preventing unexpected power failures and ensuring the stability of the national grid. Overgrown vegetation, worn-out poles, and aging transformers can lead to frequent outages if not addressed promptly. By proactively servicing these components, UEDCL hopes to reduce downtime and improve electricity access for homes and businesses.

For residents and businesses in the affected areas, the short-term inconveniences will pave the way for long-term benefits, including fewer unplanned outages and a more resilient power supply. UEDCL encourages customers to report any emergencies or unusual power fluctuations during the maintenance period.

UEDCL’s nationwide maintenance schedule is a necessary step toward modernizing Uganda’s electricity infrastructure. While temporary disruptions are inevitable, the long-term gains—improved reliability, fewer outages, and enhanced safety—make these efforts worthwhile. Customers are urged to stay informed and cooperate with UEDCL as it works to deliver a more stable and efficient power supply across the country.

For real-time updates, follow UEDCL’s official announcements or contact their customer service team. With proper planning and community support, Uganda’s power distribution system will emerge stronger and more dependable than ever.
