UPDF Releases Shortlist for Army Recruitment: Check Your District Now

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has released the names of candidates shortlisted to join the army as privates. This follows a nationwide call for applications from Ugandans interested in serving in the military. The list is now available on the UPDF website, organized by district, along with the dates for physical recruitment exercises.

In an announcement made on Thursday evening, the UPDF confirmed that the shortlisted candidates can check their names on the official website or at their respective district or municipal headquarters. The statement read, “Following a successful exercise of submission of applications by candidates aspiring to join the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), we are delighted to announce that the lists of those shortlisted are ready for viewing on the UPDF website at www.updf.go.ug/careers/ or at the District or Municipal headquarters.”

The physical recruitment exercises are scheduled to begin on August 5, 2025, and will run until August 15, 2025, across various recruitment centers in the country. Shortlisted candidates are required to report with specific documents, including three passport-sized photographs and an application letter signed by their Local Council 1 (LC1) chairperson, District Internal Security Officer (DISO), and Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO). They must also carry their original academic documents for verification.

The UPDF has also issued a warning to applicants regarding their district of residence. Those who did not indicate their district in their applications must report to the recruitment center in the district listed on their national identification cards. The army further cautioned against presenting forged documents, stating that anyone caught with fake papers will face legal action.

Only those whose names appear on the shortlist are allowed to attend the recruitment exercises. The UPDF emphasized that the recruitment process is free of charge and advised candidates to beware of fraudsters who may try to extort money from them.

Successful recruits will be required to report to the Kaweweta Basic Military Training School in Ngoma-Nakaseke District within three days of their recruitment. This marks the beginning of their training as new members of Uganda’s national army.

The release of the shortlist has sparked excitement among many young Ugandans eager to serve their country. The UPDF remains one of the most respected institutions in Uganda, offering opportunities for career growth and national service.

Aspiring soldiers are encouraged to prepare adequately for the physical exercises, which will test their fitness and readiness for military training. The UPDF has assured the public that the recruitment process will be conducted fairly and transparently, giving all shortlisted candidates an equal opportunity to join the forces.

For those who did not make the shortlist this time, the UPDF has encouraged them to keep trying in future recruitment drives. The army continues to play a vital role in maintaining peace and security in Uganda, and the addition of new recruits will further strengthen its capacity to protect the nation.

Interested candidates and the general public can visit the UPDF website for more details on the recruitment process and the list of shortlisted applicants per district. The UPDF remains committed to upholding high standards in its recruitment exercises, ensuring that only the best candidates are selected to serve in the forces.

As the recruitment dates draw closer, many young Ugandans are preparing to take the next step in their journey toward joining the army. The UPDF’s call for new recruits continues to attract thousands of applicants, reflecting the strong desire among Ugandans to contribute to their country’s security and development.

With the shortlist now out, the focus shifts to the physical recruitment exercises, where candidates will have the chance to prove their readiness for military service. The UPDF has assured the nation that the process will be conducted with integrity, ensuring that only the most qualified and dedicated individuals are selected.

For updates and further information, candidates are advised to follow official UPDF communication channels and avoid engaging with unauthorized individuals claiming to influence the recruitment process. The army remains vigilant against any form of corruption or malpractice, ensuring a fair and merit-based selection.

As Uganda prepares to welcome a new batch of soldiers, the UPDF’s commitment to professionalism and excellence remains unwavering. The upcoming recruitment exercises mark another important step in strengthening the nation’s defense forces and securing a brighter future for all Ugandans.
