The Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga, called upon the youth to observe good morals and avoid drug addiction and other vices such as crime. Speaking during “Ekisakaate kya Nnabagereka 2025,” a specialized training that attracted youth in different skills at Janan Secondary School in Bombo Kalule, Mayiga emphasized that moral regeneration was highly needed in society.
The Rising Concern: Drug Addiction Among Youth
Mayiga decried the increasing rate at which drugs were being abused, especially among men. “Nowadays, more men are getting involved in unethical practices,” he lamented, noting that this was a call for society to change immediately.
He added that such programs as “Ekisakaate kya Nnabagereka” were vital in shaping the lives of young people to become productive and ethically upright.
Skills Training for a Better Tomorrow
The Katikkiro commended the training program, which includes activities like art and craft making, catering, and other life skills. These, he said, equip the young participants with hands-on knowledge and discipline.
“The eight days of training will leave a mark in your lives,” Mayiga assured the participants, emphasizing the importance of such a holistic program towards molding responsible citizens.
Parents Hold the Key
Mayiga also addressed the issue of parents, encouraging them to actively develop their children. He added that fathers must not run away from their parental roles.
“Parents, especially fathers, must take responsibility for fulfilling their paternal duties. You should be the pillars from which your children learn and grow,” Mayiga said.
Shared Concerns on Parenting
Echoing Mayiga’s sentiments, Mike Kironde, the proprietor of Janan Schools, expressed concern about the trend of neglect by parents. “Many parents are reluctant to spend time with their children, guiding them and nurturing them morally,” he said, emphasizing the need for active parental involvement.
Buganda Kingdom’s Vision for Youth
The Minister for Community Development in the Nnabagereka’s Office, Cotilda Nakate, reassured of the kingdom’s commitment to raising disciplined, respectful, and responsible youth. “Buganda Kingdom is committed to bringing up God-fearing and productive citizens,” Nakate said. She added that “Ekisakaate kya Nnabagereka” represents the kingdom’s aspiration for the creation of a society with morals and one that can self-sustain.
A Brighter Future Ahead

The training program focuses on holistic development through the integration of practical skills with moral teachings. Leaders of the initiative are optimistic that the values imparted will not only shape the youth but also inspire families to adopt a stronger sense of responsibility.
As the Buganda Kingdom seeks to forge a better future, the messages from “Ekisakaate kya Nnabagereka” give hope toward a generation that is ethical, disciplined, and responsible; hence, a secured future for both the kingdom and Uganda.
